According to widespread newspaper reports today, Brits who travel abroad should have a dedicated travel insurance policy, or face severe medical costs.
Although the European health insurance card is efficient in saving time for Brits in Europe, it leaves out cover for several essential risks. Travel insurance policies cover baggage claims and emergency repatriation, whereas the EHIC card does not.
Speaking on the matter, Peter Gerrard of Moneysupermarket.com was reported as commenting: "Taking this risk is not such a good idea considering 81 per cent of Brits fall ill whilst on holiday. Travel insurance is vital for claiming on cancellations, lost cash, lost or stolen valuables and providing emergency medical treatment."
