A brand new study states that those who eat fast are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes .
Japanese researchers undertook the study and discovered that individuals who eat food faster are doubly susceptible to developing impaired glucose tolerance, or pre-diabetes .
The increase was not experienced in those with other eating patterns, such as people who snack and those who enjoy eating late at night.
Blood glucose levels are higher than normal in those with impaired glucose tolerance, however, not enough to cause diabetes.
This can progress to type 2 diabetes should preventative measures not be taken.
Up to 50 per cent of those with IGT are going to develop type 2 diabetes in the next decade.
For the purposes of the study, after accounting for weight, gender, age, genes, smoking, alcohol intake, cholesterol and blood pressure, fast eating was the sole eating pattern which considerably increased the risk of developing IGT.
