New research highlights that women who sit for up to seven hours a day could be more susceptible to developing type 2 diabetes .
It discovered that women who sit most of the week are more likely to show early signs of this condition than those who are more active.
Blood tests have shown that they had higher levels of markers which suggest that their bodies were well on the way to developing diabetes.
This was not the case for men; mainly sedentary men are not more prone to becoming type 2 diabetic .
The researchers are not clear as to why this is the case.
The reason for this could be that women are more susceptible to the adverse effects of sedentary behaviour.
